Did you know that The Market is gluten, dairy, and peanut-free, but definitely NOT taste-free? This is something that we are intentionally not super loud about, because, let’s be real…we already have a bit of an uphill battle convincing people healthy food can taste good, but then you throw in, oh, by the way, everything here is also GF, DF, and PF, and an assumption is made that the food is going to taste like, well, crap (for lack of better word currently coming to mind 😂).
HOWEVER, if you’ve had our delicious food and smoothies before, you know that our food is far from tasting like crap thanks to the amazing Chef Katie, your friendly, neighborhood health coach, and our thoughtful team who always has an eye on every detail!
So you may be asking, but why is everything GF, DF, PF (but not TF)? Many humans think it is because we have a special place in our hearts for allergy folks (which we do and are honored to be a trusted place where peeps with allergies can come to feel safe, seen, heard, understood), but the decision was based off of alot of research I did during my Health Coaching certification, my own personal wellness journey, and then the results I saw with my coaching clients 🥰
I am a big believer that when we aspire to eat more whole foods (and less processed foods – and yes, there is still room for all foods), drink more water, wander around outside a bit, and get some rest, that that is an outstanding recipe to build a solid AF foundation in living a more vibrant life.
And you know here at be., we aim to make living a more vibrant life easier and more delicious so that you can have more energy and capacity to spread your own unique ripples and do what you love with the people you love…
And that is why we removed 3 common inflammatory food ingredients (and unpronounceable ingredients, weird colors, etc.) from our offerings to help take some guesswork out of reducing exposure to ingredients that may cause inflammation in some humans. NOW, let me say this…there is nothing inherenty wrong with gluten, dairy, or peanuts – the challenge is really how much we overprocess many of our raw ingredients here in the US, so much so, that many of our bodies don’t even recognize them as food, therefore can trigger low (and for some, high) levels of inflammation in some bodies.
I’ll also be real with you, I’ve been leaning into more whole foods, and have been gluten and dairy free for almost 7 years to help support my body thrive through a couple auto-immune conditions, and it kinda felt like a dream to create a space where I could eat everything in abundance without any worry while helping others to live more vibrantly as well 😅
I do truly believe that there are no “good or bad” foods, just foods that help our body sing 🎶 and foods that make it feel like, well, crap (once again, for lack of better word currently coming to mind 😆), and if we slow down and just start to notice what foods do what in our bodies, and then eat more of the foods that make it sing (which tend to be more whole foods without weird ingredients), we’ll find ourselves in a more vibrant place over time. For me, it isn’t about restriction as much as crowding out the foods that make us feel more crappy with more whole foods one bite at a time (and i’m going to say it again, there is room for both kale and cake in any lifestyle).
I would love to know what questions are coming up for you! I recognize that food stuff can be triggering for many, or perhaps this brought an awareness to something you are experiencing and have a question about! I cannot emphasize enough that we are all individuals and the best experts on our own experiences – and just because something may work or be true for one person, does not mean it will work or be true for you, and that is ok! I also recognize that access to whole foods and clean water is currently a privilege that is not afforded to all humans, while I will not get on my soapbox about this right now, this is something that as we continue to build partnerships and grow our impact beyond our 4 walls, we will be a meaningful part of changing in little and big ways ✊
Phew! Went a little bit off topic from the subject of why we’re GF, DF, PF, but definitely not TF, but can you tell I get passionate about making living a vibrant life a bit more easier? 😂 Let me say this, if you do currently have the ability to invest in living a more vibrant life, I want to encourage you to do so in the way that feels most aligned for you, you’re the only one you spend your whole life with, and you must care for yourself in this way so that you can spread your unique ripple and help be part of the change you’d love to see in this world. And if you’re reading this and thinking, there is no way I can afford this food, come to The Market anyways, we have a beautiful pay-it-forward wall fueled by our guests and ourselves, and are happy to take care of you. And if you’re like, I just want to come sit in the positive vibes, well, you can do that anytime we’re open, no purchase ever necessary, and we will make sure to get you a glass (or many) of some fresh, alkaline, anti-oxidant water, too ❤️
